Cooten Bay, a pebble and rock beach where you will find a ruin from the plantation days together with a couple of cannons. From the house turn right onto the Ridge Rd and proceed until you go over a speed bump just after a water machine. About 400 yds further on there is a turning to the right. Take that turning and drive down to sea level, always bearing right or turning right if you have an opportunity to. Park when you see some double stone gateposts and head down the pathway towards the beach. If you walk along the beach or through the trees near the bottom of the pathway, to your right you will find a ruin of a building that was part of a sugar plantation. There is one cannon between the ruin and the beach and another, partially buried, slightly further along.
Around the ruin there are a number of very large trees, many of which have ‘Tarzan style’ vines hanging from them. On the left hand side, looking up the mountain there is a ghut containing many large boulders and rock pools. that is fun to climb..
There is a very primitive pathway from the far right side of the beach right across to Josiah’s Bay. I’ve never tried walking it but some of our guests have and have very much enjoyed it.
